Q:

I put a design on the blank (rewritable) card, but when I put it in my embroidery machine, the machine just beeps/ whistles/ or stays on a blank screen.

Check the design you put on the rewritable card. It is probably to large for your embroidery machine. (see "how can I check the size of my design?" below) If your machine only has a 4"x 4" sewing field and your design is a 5x7, your embroidery machine will not accept it. You will need to reset the card and Smart Box to allow the card to be written to again. To do this, make sure your Smart Box software is closed. Then insert the blank card into the slot, unplug the back of the box (only from the back of the Box, not from the USB port on the computer). This should reset your card and you can open your software back up again to rewrite to your card. If you are using the SmartBox version 4.2, you would go to "Options" button and set your Smartbox for your specific machine. If your machine is not listed, choose one with the SAME size sewing field. If you do not have version 4.2, you can update at www.simplicitysewing.com under the heading "Downloads". |

Q:

My Smart Box software is not recognizing my rewritable memory card. The "write" button does not highlight when I insert the card.

A:
Make sure your Smart Box is plugged into the USB on your computer and the USB to the back of the Smart Box. If everything is connected properly, then see the question above. If you have used the card before and gotten a blank screen or high pitch from your embroidery machine, follow the directions from the question above. |

Q:

I can't find "Color Edit".
A:
On your computer, go to START, PROGRAMS, SMART BOX. When you highlight Smart Box, another menu should pop up that has Color Edit. Left click on Color Edit to open it. If you want Color Edit on your desk top (so you can just double click on it to open it), when the menu comes up, instead of clicking on Color Edit, go to the words "send to" on the list. Highlight "send to" and it should bring up another menu with "Desktop (create shortcut)" on the list. LEFT CLICK on the Desktop create shortcut. Once you left click, (you may not actually SEE anything happen, until you exit), exit all the menus. (You can also exit by just clicking anywhere on a blank space on your desktop screen). Once those menus are closed, you should see two little butterflies on your desktop with the words "Color Edit" beneath them. This is your Color Edit program. |

How can I change my Zip file to a PES format so I can use the "Browse" feature?
A:
You can take your zipped designs into Color Edit, then save it as a PES format. (See the other FAQ questions on how to locate your Color Edit program.) |

Q:
I bought a CD with designs on it from the internet or dealer. I can't get the designs to come through to the six squares in the SmartBox
A:
When designs are purchased from an unauthorized person, they can possibly be copied to the CD incorrectly and be corrupted. (Note: copying licensed CD's is illegal). Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to bring these designs through. However, if you purchased a CD through a licensed dealer, those CDs sometimes need to be "opened". For instance: on some of the collection CDs, you have to first open a folder that says Designs, then a folder that says "PES". Once you open the PES folder (or whatever format your machine takes), you then may have other folders beneath it saying things like "animals", "alphabet", "birds", etc. (different categories). You need to open whichever folder you want to take a design from. This should help you bring in your design. Also make sure the design fits into your sewing area and that it's not to big. (See how to check the size of your design in one of the following FAQ's). |

Q:
I need to uninstall and reinstall my SmartBox. Is there any special instructions?
A:
Please use your Control panel and the Add/Remove hardware button. You will uninstall the software completely, unplug the SmartBox, then shut down your computer. You will then reinstall the software/ hardware from the beginning, using the instructions in your manual, as if it were a new installation. |
